Second CycleResearch for eLASTIC: Electronic Learning and Assessment Tool for Interdisciplinary Connections among the Visual Arts, Reading, and WritingThe School of the Arts and Education at Virginia Commonwealth University, Qatar University, and Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar propose to conduct research to inform the development of an arts-based virtual/electronic learning and assessment software tool (eLASTIC) targeting 11th grade students’ academic achievement and skill-improvement in visual arts, reading and writing. Through interviews, focus groups, observations, experimentation and application, this research will inform the design of a UDL-compliant electronic assessment tool that obtains and analyzes data for evaluating progress and contributes to students' academic achievement. Using both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis, faculty and student perceptions will determine expected levels of achievement in the visual arts, reading, and writing. Student performance in visual art and reading comprehension, writing and critical thinking will be compared using pre- and post-test assessments. Data analysis will consider focus group transcripts, observation field notes, pre/post measures, engagement and achievement measures through item level descriptives, and repeat measures ANOVA, ANCOVA, and MANCOVA. This iterative project will focus on the research of the software application and related procedures across a 3-year period.ID : 848 Number of shows: 658 Create date: 05/24/2009 12:33:37 Modify date: 05/24/2009 12:33:37 Proposal No.: NPRP 08 - 378 - 6 - 010 Proposal Specialty: 6.4 Arts (Arts, History of Arts, Performing Arts, Music) LPI Name: Dr. Taylor, Pamela Submitting Institution: Virginia Commonwealth U - Qatar Collaborative Institutions: Qatar University / Virginia Commonwealth University Project Status: Awarded |
