Scientists at the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute of the Qatar Foundation (QEERI/QF) announced the discovery of three new extrasolar planets using an optical Earth-based telescope established by QF as part of the ongoing Qatar Exoplanet Survey (QES).

Material sciences play a major role in innovation in the field of energy. Qatar National Research Strategy identified since 2012 materials as a major research cross cutting priority. An important part of QNRF funded projects in the Energy and Environment pillar addresses the issue of materials for energy applications from oil & gas industry to renewable energies. This workshop aims to showcase recent research results, present the current activities and discuss future opportunities.

A 3-day workshop “Sustainable Materials and Materials for Sustainability” held on May 8-10 at Qatar University (QU) brought together over 50 experienced and early career researchers from multidisciplinary backgrounds such as materials science, chemistry, engineering, and energy and environment. The workshop was co-organized by QU Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) and Ulster University under the Qatar-UK Research Networking Programme, and sponsored by British Council and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in collaboration with UK Science and Innovation Network and UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
