Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) has received 23 research awards and bagged the three recognition awards of the Qatar National Research Fund’s (QNRF) National Priorities Research Programme (NPRP) at the QNRF Seventh Annual Research Forum.
TAMUQ received 23 awards from a total 120 chosen for funding from 869 projects submitted by 29 institutions in Qatar. TAMUQ’s awarded projects span its degree programmes in chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, and petroleum engineering, as well as its science programme.
“Our research is contributing new knowledge, which is critical for the foundation of a knowledge-based economy,” said Dr Mark H Weichold, dean and CEO, TAMUQ. “This latest round of awards and recognition from QNRF demonstrates the high quality of research conducted at TAMUQ and the world-class caliber of our faculty and research staff.”
TAMUQ researchers and its research office were also singled out for major awards.
Dr Haitham Abu-Rub, professor and chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Programme, was named Best Researcher of the Year for his productivity in high-impact journals. 

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), has awarded grants to 120 research proposals across 17 institutions in Qatar for the 8th cycle of its flagship National Priorities Research Program (NPRP).
Announced at the 7th QNRF Annual Forum held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha on Tuesday, the top three results saw Qatar University awarded for 57 proposals, Texas A&M University at Qatar for 23 proposals, and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar awarded for eight. The remaining 32 research proposals were awarded across a number of other institutions in the country, including Hamad Medical Corporation, Ministry of Environment, Gulf Organisation for Research and Development and Silatech.
Of the 120 of awarded proposals, aligned with the four pillars of the Qatar National Research Strategy, 38 per cent fall under energy and environment, 27 per cent under health and life sciences, 20 per cent under social sciences, arts and humanities, and the remaining 15 per cent under computer science and information and communications technology.

QATAR National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), has awarded a grant for research on the applications of solar energy to Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Research Development (QF). 
Awarded under QNRF's National Priorities Research Program Exceptional Proposals (NPRP-EP), the project entitled 'Coherent Energy Transfer in Novel Excitonic Materials for Solar Energy Applications' provides an innovative solution to the global question of energy harvesting. The study promises to revolutionise the field of solar cells, placing Qatar at the forefront of a niche and critical research area.

The Doha Institute of Family Institute (DIFI) has launched the Osra Research Grant, a joint research funding initiative with the Qatar National Research Fund, for research on the Arab family. 
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of  DIFI’s first annual conference on Family Research and Policy, Noor al-Malki al-Jehani, executive director, DIFI, said that the research grant of $50,000 for one year, aims to support innovative and high quality research on the Arab family.  
“The Osra grant aims to provide policy-makers in the region with evidence-based research and analysis that supports the design and implementation of new or more effective family- related policies and programmes. The grant is open for researchers from 22 Arab countries. The teams can include members from any of these countries as there is great flexibility in the norms for allotting the grant,” she said.
“Osra research is focused on four topics namely marriage; parenting; family work balance and family law and practice in the Arab world. The research can be conducted in any of the 22 Arab countries. The outcomes of the researches will be showcased during the next conferences.”

Dr. Abdullah Al-Kamali has worked as Special Programs Manager for QNRF for the past four and a half years, dealing with the K-12 (Kindergarten - grade 12) education program and Secondary School Research Experience Program (SSREP). He graduated with a BA in Education from Qatar University in 1994 and has spent 20 years working in the field of education, working his way up from teaching to being the senior expert of curriculum standards at the Supreme Education Council (SEC). He received his PhD in the Philosophy of Education from the University of Arkansas in 2007.

Doha, 30 March 2015: Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D) has announced the winners the 17th cycle of its Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP). Out of 126 research proposals submitted by student teams from seven universities across Qatar, 37 were awarded grants. 
This latest UREP cycle will engage a total of 147 undergraduate students and 74 faculty members. Among the 37 awarded proposals, 26 went to Qatar University, three to Texas A&M University at Qatar, and two each to Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar and the University of Calgary in Qatar. The two remaining grants were awarded to Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College. 
By investing in cutting-edge research, QNRF is enhancing a research culture that supports Qatar Foundation (QF) on its mission to build Qatar’s innovation and technology capacity, helping the nation develop into a hub of research excellence through QF’s science and research pillar, QF R&D.

Doha, 25 March, 2015: The winners of the inaugural Qatar Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math Fair (Qatar STEAM) are set to represent Qatar at the renowned Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Pittsburgh, USA, in May. 
Having been chosen from among the brightest young minds as the overall winners of the first nationwide science and research competition yesterday, eight students were awarded with Grand Awards. 
The competition was held in full support of Qatar Foundation’s mission to build and develop capacity for creativity and critical thinking through research in education and science. 
The top prize in the Grand Awards went to Ghanim AlMansouri and Hussam AitelQadi for their research project entitled “Innovative Game Software for Improving the English Language Skills of Non-Native Speakers”.
Qatar STEAM was organised by Qatar Foundation Research & Development (QF R&D), Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of QF R&D, and the Supreme Education Council (SEC). The nationwide competition saw more than 160 students from 40 schools participate in the two-day fair held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha. 

MENAFN - Gulf Times) About 2,500 undergraduate students from universities in Qatar have been supported by Qatar National Research Fund's (QNRF's) Undergraduate Research Experience Programme (UREP), a top QNRF official said yesterday. One third of the participants were Qatari. 
Speaking at the award ceremony of the seventh annual UREP competitions, Dr Abdul Sattar al-Taie, executive director, QNRF, noted, "So far we have supported about 2,500 undergraduate students since the inception of UREP in 2006. Students have participated in 761 projects during the 16 UREP cycles that have been held so far with 656 UREP projects completed in the past seven and half years."
Dr al-Taie added, "It is not only an opportunity for the budding researchers to show their potential to the public but also an occasion to get recognised for their outstanding work. In the spirit of inclusion, the UREP competition also embraces wider community outside of the academic sector to undertake research in an effort to promote Qatari youth."
