Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has awarded prizes to the top three research projects presented by students in the 8th cycle of its Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP). The awardees were announced on Monday 21st March 2016 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has awarded top three research projects presented by students in the eighth cycle of its Undergraduate Research Experience Programme (UREP). The wining projects covered research areas, including biomedicine and health; engineering; and technology. First place in the competition went to a team from Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ). Titled ‘Investigation of the Performances of the Gas Electron Multiplier for Collider Experiments’, the project involved running experimental tests of the gas electron multiplier (GEM) under different conditions for future use in applications such as high energy collider experiments.

89 research proposals get QNRF grants

The announcements came during the Qatar Foundation Annual Research Conference 2016 recently. QNRF, a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), presented grants to 89 research proposals across 18 institutions in Qatar for the ninth cycle of the NPRP. The five awardees of the first cycle of PPM were also disclosed. Qatar University was the recipient of nearly 40% of the NPRP awards, with 37 proposals receiving grants. Texas A&M University at Qatar was awarded 16 proposals, while Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute received awards for 11 proposals.

HBKU leaders receive Qatar National Research Fund grants

Leaders with Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), recently received 15 different research grants. These grants are part of honoring World Water Day. The funds come from Qatar National Research Fund and its National Priorities Research program. Three of the grants went to the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). Eleven grants were donated to Qatar Environment and Research Institute (QEERI), and the remaining grant went to Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI).
