HH the Emir Patronizes Qatar University Graduation Ceremony

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani patronized Tuesday the graduation ceremony of batch 2014 of Qatar University's male students at Qatar National Convention Center.

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani attended the graduation ceremony along with a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and Ministers, faculty members and students' parents.

After a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, HE the President of Qatar University Dr. Sheikha bint Abdullah Al-Misned gave a speech on this occasion.

Dr. Sheikha underlined that Qatar University is keen to keep pace with Qatar National Vision which calls for the development of innovation and creative capacity through the scientific research strategy in areas that address the developmental needs of the country such as environment, information technology, health and identity.

Dr. Sheikha explained that the development of research necessitated the development of an infrastructure to manage and take care of the researchers' affairs.

She extended sincere congratulations to the research sector in Qatar University in general, and to the Office of Academic Research (OAR) in particular, for winning the Qatar National Research Fund award of the Best Research Office in 2014 for the organization’s excellent punctuality and compliance during pre-funding and post-funding phases.

Thanks to generous state funding for scientific research, QU has been able to sign research partnerships with more than 380 academic institutions around the world.

QU's investment in scientific research achieved the highest Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) in publishing research in the region with an average of 7.28%, Dr. Sheikha added.

The development of Qatar University is the result of a well-studied process and systematic steps within the framework of a strategic planning that included all sectors of the university, she said, asserting that all QU strategic plans were based on Qatar National Vision 2030, which gave priorities to human development in general and education in particular as a fundamental element of building the present and future of the State of Qatar.

Following the speech, HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani presented 32 outstanding students with the graduation certificates.

HE the President of Qatar University Dr. Sheikha bint Abdullah Al-Misned had distributed the certificates to the graduates. (QNA)
