HMC hosts first pain conference

DOHA: About 500 delegates from Qatar and the region participated in the first Qatar International Pain Conference at Qatar National Convention Center.
It was organised by Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care Unit and Perioperative Medicine in collaboration Academic Health System and with the support of Qatar National Research Fund. It was attended by pain specialists, general physicians, medical students, and delegates from academic, government and private institutions in Qatar and the region.
HMC’s pain team, an integral part of the Anaesthesia Department, comprises multidisciplinary healthcare professionals working directly with patients living with pain such as cancer patients and those recovering from major surgery to ease their discomfort and improve their quality of life using a holistic approach.
Dr Nicholas Scott, Conference Chairman and Deputy Chairman, Department of Anaesthesiology, ICU and Perioperative Medicine, said: “Our department is converting from a service department into an academic one to establish and maintain the highest possible levels of care for patients. Activities such as this conference help us advance the quality of our research and provide the best evidence-based care for patients living with pain.”The Peninsula
