Over 200 applicants register for Challenge 22 in Oman

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s Challenge 22 Roadshow has completed a successful visit to Oman with over 200 new applicants. The regional tour to raise awareness about the innovation award will continue with a two-day stopover in Bahrain that kicks-off today.
Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi, Technical Department representative and Challenge 22 presenter from the SC, spoke alongside main ambassadors Mohammed Saeed Harib, founder of Lammatra Production and creator of Freej, Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari, popular sports TV presenter, and Areej Al Kharafi, Kuwaiti business entrepreneur.
On her part, Fatma Al Nuaimi, Social and Human Legacy Manager at the SC, said: “The turn out in Oman was more than excepted, we are very happy about the eagerness to learn about the initiative and to meet all the interested applicants.”
The Challenge 22 roadshow held three sessions in Muscat, between Tawasul Global Connection Center, Knowledge Oman and Sharakah. “We are delighted to be here in Muscat and to work with our three partners on the information sessions. Our next stop is Bahrain, as we continue our efforts to reach out to the innovators and the brightest minds in the country to encourage them to apply,” added Al Nuaimi.
Mohammed Saeed Harib added: “We all have ideas, and the SC along with their partners are giving residents in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) an opportunity to develop them and have it be part of the 2022 World Cup.”
Mariam Al Amri, Challenge 22’s country ambassador from Oman and president of the Youth Vision Committee emphasized that “with this being the first World Cup in the region, we are trying to push the boundaries and come up with our own solutions. This is a great chance for the region to be involved in a once in a lifetime event.”
Challenge 22 is seeking applicants within the GCC, with solution based proposals related to three key themes that address challenges faced by Qatar and the world when hosting major sports events.
The three themes for the inaugural launch of the award are Sustainability, Event Experience, and Sports and Health. Successful applicants have the opportunity to win a cash prize of USD $20,000 during Phase 1 of the competition and a grant to further develop their idea into a proof of concept during Phase 2 of the competition.
Challenge 22 is an innovation award developed to inspire and challenge the region’s brightest minds. All innovators, entrepreneurs and individuals with big ideas are invited to visit us to learn more about this exciting new competition.
Initiated by the SC, Silatech and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), Challenge 22 is an innovation award that was borne out of a desire to celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ as a regional event.
Following the visit to Bahrain, the roadshow will conclude with a four day visit to the United Arab Emirates from 13 February in order to meet with potential applicants and to provide more information about this new initiative.
