Applications soar 61% for Qatar National Research Fund Graduate Student Research Awards

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a centre of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), saw a 61 % increase in the second cycle of its Graduate Student Research Award applications. The number of proposals rose from 16 to 26, which highlights the growing research sector in Qatar.

The majority of research submissions were from Qatar University in the field of engineering and technology, followed by the natural sciences, agricultural sciences, and social sciences.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a centre of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), and the Supreme Education Council (SEC) have awarded winning students in the Science Challenge organized at the Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Center.

Aligned with the educational curriculum for middle schools in Qatar, the Science Challenge pilot programme was set up to encourage young students to construct a bridge using the science principles taught in the classroom.

Students from 10 Independent schools took part in a competition of designing and building bridges at the Science Challenge programme organised jointly by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and the Supreme Education Council (SEC). The event was held at the Student Centre of the Education City yesterday.

Speaking to Gulf Times, Abdulla al-Kamali, special programmes manager, QNRF, said that it was a pilot programme.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) continues to encourage undergraduate students to apply for grants to conduct original research on topics relevant to Qatar, as part of its Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP). Applications for the 15th cycle of the Program can be submitted from the last week of September.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) today announced a new cycle of grants worth $1,570,088 for undergraduate students in Qatar.

The grants are part of a Program that provides recipients with hands-on experience conducting original research under faculty mentorship. Since its inception more than 2,200 students have taken part in the Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP), now in its 14th cycle.
