Research Outcome Seminar (ROS) on Air Quality

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of Qatar Foundation, cordially invites you to its Research Outcome Seminar (ROS) entitled “Impact of Air Quality Research in Qatar’s Ecosystem”.

Recent studies show that Qatar, as well as the wider Middle East Region, is dominated by a high concentration of fugitive dust. To improve and regulate air quality, it is important to develop an understanding of the local physicochemical characteristics and particulate matter sources for the country. Furthermore, there are cultural and economic issues that influence the serious nature of the emission of pollutants, resulting in poor air quality.

The research into air quality will potentially reduce the incidence of diseases in confined living spaces, schools, and industrial sites. The outcomes of such studies can provide information that can assist decision-makers in enhancing the nation’s awareness, developing guidelines, and taking corrective actions to improve air quality. Furthermore, such efforts will educate the workforce needed to fill a critical manpower gap and train competent researchers.

Over the last fifteen years, QNRF has been supporting research projects focused on air quality. This seminar aims to gather local expertise dealing with such challenges and highlight the outcomes of QNRF-funded projects and their integrated role in developing strategies to protect the environment and conserve the natural ecosystem in Qatar. This was further reinforced by the hosting of the United Nations’ 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18), which took place in 2012 in Doha, Qatar.

The seminar will highlight topics in the following areas:

1. Wireless sensor network for urban-scale mapping and assessment of indoor & outdoor air quality

2. Emission models for fugitive particulate matter

3. Space cooling

4. Enhancing air quality

5. Enhanced monitoring of environmental and chemical processes

6. Promoting energy efficiency in Qatar

•    The time – 9.30am – 11.50pm (Doha Time)

•    The date – Tuesday, 24 November 2020

•    The place – virtual event

We look forward to seeing you there!
