The larger legacy of American Studies is a critique which is always about challenging and de-centring received wisdom, a prominent scholar told yesterday the opening session of the conference ‘From Tahrir Square to Zuccotti Park: The Arab Spring and the De-Centering of American Studies’ organised by the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.

QBG to host environmental research contest for pupils

The Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), will host its third consecutive environmental research contest for secondary school students in Qatar.
The competition, which will see 20 high schools in Qatar participate in a variety of environmental research projects, aims to build a generation of students dedicated to exploring, researching and conserving natural resources, specifically plants.

Qatar in brain injury research initiative

The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), which functions under the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is spearheading a major international research initiative on traumatic brain injury. The research involves extensive collaboration between leading specialists from around the globe over the next three years. It will provide new knowledge on the processes that lead to loss and recovery of function after traumatic brain injury and focus on characterising the physiological, structural and biomolecular changes in brain tissue responsible for functional impairment.
