Doha: Since the development of satellite broadcasting, the role of TV has increased as a significant definer of national identity and people’s perception of themselves and the world around them. Across the world, TV broadcasting has formed a significant tool since its appearance in carrying content loaded with cultural, historical and national heritage. A typical way of looking at TV content that leads to the construction of a national identity and how TV content unifies nations is studying the way broadcasters report national celebrations for instance.

The outstanding research efforts of students at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) were recognized at the Qatar National Research Fund’s 13th Annual Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) Competition, where two teams from the QF partner institution won first place in the poster and oral presentation categories. 

Held virtually this year, the UREP competition featured 26 teams from universities across Qatar.  The GU-Q teams competed in the Social Arts and Humanities pillar of the competition, and presented original research on the socio-economic and policy environment of Qatar conducted while they were undergraduates.

For the sixth consecutive year, FameLab, one of the biggest science communication competitions in the world, took place in Qatar.

FameLab was initiated by Cheltenham Science Festivals in the UK, and brought to Qatar by the British Council in partnership with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) – a member of Qatar Foundation (QF) – and supported by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The winner of the adult category will go on to represent Qatar in the online international FameLab finals at the Cheltenham Science Festival in the United Kingdom.

RESEARCH projects designed to help children with autism learn from home, enforce quarantine measures, and safeguard mental health of healthcare workers, will be supported through a new, streamlined funding call launched by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), to help Qatar combat COVID-19.
With the needs of Qatar and the health and safety of its people as its priority, the Qatar Foundation (QF) member – which is the region’s leading research funding agency – developed the Rapid Response Call (RRC) from scratch in record time and accelerated the evaluation and funding phases to ensure that the proposed outcomes of awarded projects are met as soon as possible.
