The University College of London-Qatar’s ‘The origins of Doha’ project is a research about early settlements of Doha, through the Qatar National Research Fund. The excavations were carried out with Qatar Museums. The historic town located in (and under) central Doha appears to have been founded sometime in the first two decades of the 1800s.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), has announced the awards of three research proposals submitted to the sixth batch of its National Priorities Research Program – Exceptional Proposals (NPRP–EP). Hamad Medical Corporation and Texas A&M University at Qatar will benefit from funding through NPRP–EP, which offers additional resources beyond those available under the National Priorities Research Program.

Nearly 60 percent of Qatar University’s female undergraduate engineering students are considering pursuing postgraduate education, a survey of students revealed recently. Qatar’s quest to become a global research and development (R&D) hub for the energy industry dates back to 2006 when the government announced that it would allocate 2.8 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) annually to promote research, technology and innovation via the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). The percentage is above the 1.9 percent allocated by the UK government to R&D relative to GDP in 2010 and equal to Germany’s 2.8 percent , according to World Bank data.
