HBKU’s QCRI and Turkish Scientists Snare $1.65m Grant

The grant will be utilized to build pre-emptive cyber security platform

Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, along with Turkish company Universal IT Security (UITSEC), have been awarded a US $1.65 million grant to build a new defensive cyber intelligence platform. The grant was recently announced by the Qatar National Research Fund and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), at Qatar Foundation’s Annual Research Conference 2018 (ARC’18).

The proposal titled “Formulating Sustainable Urban Food, Water and Energy (FEW) strategy by optimising the synergetic effects among food, water and energy sectors” that was submitted by a Qatari team to Belmont Forum for this year has been approved.

Clean energy has become a major growth sector as countries around the world are increasingly looking towards transitioning to low emission energy systems. The EU and the Arab region, particularly the GCC, are both committed to progress toward low emissions and sustainable practices. However, this shift needs to progress substantially if we are to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. This means that the energy sector should undergo a deep transformation over the next few decades.
