Qatar University Biomedical Research Centre (QU-BRC) hosted a workshop on “Emerging Pathogens at the Human-Animal-Environment Interface”. The event, which was supported by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), aimed to share latest scientific research findings and One Health training and outreach model systems against Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID), to establish a scientific network among ministries and professionals within Qatar and beyond, and to plan for a global congress on EID in Doha in 2017.

TAMUQ UREP student undergoes internship at CERN

Texas A&M at Qatar (Tamuq) mechanical engineering student Fahad al-Thani was awarded a place in a summer internship at CERN in the Detector Technology Programme for eight weeks. Al-Thani who got funding from Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), is the second Qatari student to travel to Switzerland for a CERN internship after Abdulla al-Suwaidi in 2015. Al-Thani said the first six weeks of the internship consisted of attending lectures centred on the future accelerators technologies, several workshops and testing Gas Electron Multiplier detectors.

SC holds digital launch of Challenge 22’s second cycle

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) yesterday held the digital launch of the second cycle of Challenge 22, with the participation of partners and ambassadors across 10 Arab countries.
Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the UAE are the countries covered by Challenge 22, an innovation award launched in 2015 to promote a culture of innovation in the region and attract entrepreneurs, scientists and pioneers from across the Arab world.
