WCMC-Q Team Wins Key Competition Run by Qatar National Research Fund

Another project from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar also made it to the finals. The team studied the role of two different cellular components in order to see how they affect the overall growth of cells. 

In the field of natural sciences, a Qatar University team studied the effects of garden thyme as a therapeutic agent for breast cancer. Another team from Qatar University, in the discipline of social sciences and humanities, studied the relationship between cultural misunderstandings in business and the quality of customer service in order to help companies improve their dealings with clients in cosmopolitan societies.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) continues to encourage undergraduate students to apply for grants to conduct original research on topics relevant to Qatar, as part of its Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP). Applications for the 15th cycle of the Program can be submitted from the last week of September.

Students’ engineering research for oil industry wins QNRF’s undergraduate competition

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has awarded first place to students from Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMU-Q) at the conclusion of its fifth Annual Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) Competition.

The winning project, which examined the effects of ultra-high pressures and temperatures on oil–based drilling mud, was one of five undergraduate projects competing at the QNRF event on March 27, held under the patronage of Mr Faisal Alsuwaidi, President of Research and Development at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

Student representatives presented their research, which had been selected through an extensive review process from 88 UREP projects completed in 2012, to a panel of seven judges. They were ranked on the quality of their presentations and the relevance of their data for Qatar.

QNRF a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development yesterday announced the results of the “Fourth Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) Competition” which was held this year under the auspices of Faisal Al-Suwaidi, President, Research and Development, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
