2020: The year of COVID

QNRF PR 0 2218

As we welcome 2021, let’s take a moment and look back at the phenomenal year 2020 has been for all of us. We entered 2020 with COVID-19 already upon us and that soon evolved into a global pandemic. Faced with such an unprecedented and complex range of challenges, the whole world pinned down their hopes on the scientific and research community to develop vaccines for COVID-19 and innovate solutions that can mitigate its far-reaching consequences.

QNRF-funded researchers develop innovative and effective biodegradable materials

QNRF PR 0 3009

Every year, around 2.2 million bone grafting surgeries are performed worldwide to place new bone or replacement material as implants to aid in healing. Often a second surgery is then required to remove the implant after the fracture has healed or the desired bone growth has been achieved.

QNRF-funded project aims to purify natural gas and reduce Qatar’s carbon footprint

QNRF PR 0 2739

Qatar is home to one of the largest reservoirs of natural gas globally and holds a major share in the global market of extracting, processing, and supplying natural gas. During the processing and exploitation of this vital natural resource, carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced which is an inherent impurity that requires effective removal from mixtures with methane (CH4) and nitrogen (N2).

Researchers from Qatar develop a unique method for separation of oil-water mixtures

QNRF PR 0 3269

Water is the essence of life and maintaining clean water sources has always been seen as a foremost priority in Qatar and worldwide. However, the safety of our water sources is under constant threat and often compromised. Oil spills and related accidents are a growing challenge that seriously damage and threaten aquatic environments and cause environmental imbalances that lead to heavy human, economic, and environmental costs.
