Challenge 22 announces list of 18 finalists for innovation award

Throughout the first phase of Challenge 22, 31 semi-finalists were each assigned a mentor from institutions around Qatar to support them in taking their two-page proposal to a full detailed submission.
Those applications have been carefully reviewed and processed, leaving the 18 applicants who have demonstrated the greatest capacity to deliver an innovative idea that could leave a lasting legacy.  
Fatma Al-Nuaimi, Legacy Senior Manager at the SC said: “Our partners and mentors were crucial in enabling the final 18 applicants to enter this exciting phase of the competition. The level of applications from all those remaining is extremely high, so it’s certainly not going to be an easy decision for the judging panel.”

Dr. Abdulnasser Al-Ansari, Deputy Executive Director at Qatar National Research Fund, added: “I would like to congratulate all those remaining in the competition for making it through phase one. The level of applications from around the GCC has been exceptionally high, and we’re looking forward to seeing the 18 finalists’ presentations. Their ideas can go on to potentially have a global impact.”

The 18 finalists will take part in a three-day programme of workshops and team building exercises with ambassadors and partners. This will culminate in the final event set for 15 June, where panellists will present their idea to a judging panel that will decide on up to six winners. 
Initiated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Silatech and Qatar National Research Fund, Challenge 22 is a unique opportunity to think big and come up with inventive solutions to the challenges associated with hosting a major sporting event. Calling on applicants within the GCC, Challenge 22 aims to find solution-based proposals related to three key themes that address challenges faced by Qatar and the world when hosting major sports events: Sustainability, Event Experience, and Sports and Health. Successful applicants have the opportunity to win a cash prize of USD $20,000 during Phase 1 of the competition and a grant to further develop their idea into a proof of concept during Phase 2 of the competition.
