Challenge 22 kicks off!

Challenge 22 is an annual innovation award launched in 2015 by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), along with its Strategic Partners on this programme, Silatech and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). The SC is the organisation responsible for delivering the infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ while creating a lasting legacy for Qatar and the region. Challenge 22 aims to unite, inspire and challenge the region’s brightest minds, providing innovative thinkers with the opportunity to have their ideas showcased in front of an audience of billions in 2022 and beyond.

Challenge 22 will support a culture of discovery, economic diversification and entrepreneurship, with effects felt across the region. It brings together innovators in the Arab world and supports them as they explore solutions that could directly benefit the hosts of mega-events globally. The innovation award also provides an opportunity to build sustainable links between leading research centres, academic institutions and businesses in the Middle East.
For the first cycle, challenges are focused on three key themes: Sustainability, Event Experience and Sports & Health. Individuals and groups of up to four people who propose the most innovative ideas will win prizes of USD 20,000 and receive mentoring from leading scientists and researchers in the region.
The individuals or teams with the very best ideas – those with the greatest potential to contribute to an amazing tournament in 2022 – will receive additional funding to develop their ideas to the proof of concept stage.
