Challenge 22 Roadshow Visits Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s Challenge 22 Roadshow has arrived in Saudi Arabia on a six-day stopover to meet with potential applicants and raise awareness about the innovation award that was borne out of a desire to celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ as a regional event. The visit kicked off in Dammam and will also include stops in Riyadh and Jeddah.
Initiated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Silatech and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), Challenge 22 is seeking applicants within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with solution-based proposals related to three key themes that address challenges faced by Qatar and the world when hosting major sports events.
The three themes for the inaugural launch of the award are Sustainability, Event Experience, and Sports and Health. Successful applicants have the opportunity to win a cash prize of USD $20,000 during Phase 1 of the competition and a grant to further develop their idea into a proof of concept during Phase 2 of the competition.
During the presentation in Dammam, Fatma Al Nuaimi, Human and Social Legacy Manager at the SC, and Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi, from the SC Technical department, gave an overview of the project. The sessions were attended by Challenge 22’s main ambassador Mohammed Saeed Harib and country ambassadors and sports activists, Dr. Rayan Karkadan and Dr. Obai Al Bashir.
During the session, Al Nuaimi thanked Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University for their partnership: “We are delighted to be here in Saudi Arabia and to inform prospective applicants on the initiative. This is a great opportunity to reach out to the innovators and the brightest minds in the country to encourage them to apply.”
Challenge 22 Ambassadors Mohammed Saeed Harib, founder of Lammatra Production and creator of Freej, Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari, popular sports TV presenter, and former Saudi Arabia captain Sami Al Jaber, explained how they overcame the challenges they faced on their journey to success.
“We are proud to be supporting innovation and we know there are many innovators in the Kingdom waiting to be discovered. The enthusiasm and interest we have received so far has been overwhelming. We’d like to encourage more people to attend and find out how they can be part of Challenge 22,” said Dr. Karkadan, country ambassador and sports activist.
Dr. Obai, country ambassador and sports and healthy lifestyle activist, added: “The World Cup is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it is a catalyst for development for Qatar and the region, particularly with the sports and health challenge in one of Challenge 22’s themes. This will prove a lasting legacy past 2022.”
While in Saudi Arabia, the Challenge 22 Roadshow has visited Dammam and will hold five sessions for women in Riyadh and six sessions for men in Jeddah, expecting over 700 attendees.
The roadshow continues in Riyadh for a two day visit on 2 February and will visit Jeddah for a two day visit on 4 February, in order to meet with potential applicants and to provide more information about this new initiative.
The Challenge 22 Roadshow commenced on 25 January in Kuwait and will conclude on 17 February in the United Arab Emirates. The next stop on the Challenge 22 Roadshow will be Muscat, Oman from 7 February to 10 February.
