Executive Director’s Message

Enabling Research, Delivering Impact

Dear Readers,

Both historically and in our modern day and age, the crucial role of knowledge-building cannot be underestimated in exercises of nation-building. Fostering a thriving research culture is just as important, as it equips us with the necessary skills and knowledge to understand and address the challenges we are facing. This helps research to be effective and enables us to address a problem or question faced by a society – and propose a solution for it.

As the region’s premier research-funding agency, we are committed to enabling research that provides solutions for the foremost challenges faced by Qatar and the region. We strive to disseminate the outcomes of our funding projects with the research community and stakeholders at large, to support technological and societal development, by organizing a series of Research Outcome Seminars (ROS) throughout the year.

Over the next two months, we have a series of four upcoming seminars, all of which will be held online. These ROS cover topics range from exploring artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship to studying air quality and precision medicine in Qatar. I encourage you to browse through our website to learn more about the upcoming seminars and register to attend them.

On a different note, while the well-established researchers of our research programs have time and again proven their mettle across all fields of scientific and academic research, we are equally proud of our young researchers, who are raising Qatar’s flag year-by-year at various international forums. Recently, a team of two high school students made us proud by winning the bronze medal at the 5th Korea International Youth Olympiad for developing an innovative solution for people with diabetes.

As you will observe in this edition, we feature three more exceptional projects funded under the Rapid Response Call (RRC) – our initiative to strengthen Qatar’s efforts to tackle the coronavirus and address the challenges it poses. I hope you will enjoy reading this month’s edition and gain insight into the cutting-edge research, development, and innovation currently happening in Qatar.
