Launch of the Equine Research Call

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) – a member of Qatar Foundation, and The National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) – under the patronage of The Department of Higher Education and Research at the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research of Morocco, are pleased to announce the launch of the Equine Research Call. The awards in this call can go up to four years. The application budget may reach US$ 200,000 for a one-year project, US$ 400,000 for a two-year project, US$ 600,000 for a three-year project, and US$ 700,000 for a four-year project. For multi-year projects, the budget may not exceed US$ 250,000 in any year.

Proposals should be submitted through QNRF’s submission channel at https://oss.qgrants.org/, the online submission channel, Q-Grants, will open on 12 January 2021, 12 pm, Doha time (10:00 am Morocco time).

The research priority areas of this call are:

  • Study of the details of the biochemical and cellular pathways that underpin performance, immunology, reproduction, and infectious disease response in horses.
  • The integration of genetic information with traditional breeding approaches.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The Lead Principal Investigator (LPI) must be affiliated to an approved submitting institution inside Qatar or a Moroccan submitting institution.
  • If the LPI is from an institution in Morocco, they must collaborate with a Co-LPI from an approved submitting institution inside Qatar. If the LPI is from Qatar, a Moroccan Co-LPI must be identified and their Institution will be called the Moroccan submitting institution and will be responsible to sign the funding agreement with CNRST.
  • The LPI from academic/research institution must be a researcher who holds a terminal degree as defined under the approved list of terminal degrees and has at least ten peer-reviewed publications.
  • The proposal must include key investigators from Qatar and Morocco.
  • The LPI may collaborate with other principal investigators from institutions located in Qatar or Morocco only.

12 Jan 2021: Opening of the online proposal submission

06 Apr 2021: Closing of the online proposal submission by LPI

13 Apr 2021: Closing of the online research office vetting

Oct/Nov 2021: Successful proposals notification
