Research Outcome Seminar on Social Computing and Applications

from 10am-12pm on 11 April 2022

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) cordially invites you to its Research Outcome Seminar (ROS), on “Social Computing and Applications.”

Social computing facilitates social interactions via computers and represents the intersection of social behavior and computing systems. It refers to systems that support the gathering, representation, processing, use, and dissemination of information that is distributed across social collectivities such as teams, communities, organizations, and markets. It includes social media, email, blogs, instant messaging, Wikipedia, and other interactive services and applications.

Social computing plays an increasing role in providing a better quality of life through affordable digital services for all communities. It enables people and societies to benefit from modern and easy-to-use digital interactive services at reasonable costs and aims to improve the quality of life, medical care, financial and industrial sectors. In business, social computing enhances customer interaction, product marketing, and business profitability. Social computing is also used in providing educational services and applications for environmental and planet protection, and the establishing of new digital and smart businesses.

Several opportunities, as well as risks, emanate from social computing that could affect consumers, banks, regulators, and economies. This seminar aims to gather the local community dealing with such challenges in Qatar to highlight the outcomes of some of the projects and their integrated role in developing strategies to improve the living standards and access to safe and affordable digital services in Qatar.

Over the last 15 years, QNRF has been supporting research projects in smart technologies and applications, collaborating with various local end-users. This seminar offers an overview of the most current QNRF-funded projects in the field of social computing and its applications.

  • The time: 10:00am – 12:00pm
  • The date: Monday, 11 April 2022
