Objective of NPRP-BSRA
The main objective of the BSRA is to complement QNRF’s funding portfolio, which has, in recent years, focused on theme-based applications. To that end, it is envisaged that the program will have the following objectives:
- To build and sustain human capital at a wider range than is dictated by a specific set of themes.
- To advance basic science research, which has in recent years been out- ranked by applied research.
- To allow researchers the freedom to choose their research topics outside the restriction of a pre-defined set of priorities.
Description
The NPRP Blue Skies Research Award (NPRP-BSRA) is a new program designed to push the frontiers of science and advance knowledge in Qatar. This program is “investigator driven” and does not require compliance with a pre-defined set of research themes. However, for proposals that address themes that are covered elsewhere by QNRF’s funding portfolio, e.g., NPRP-S, NPRP-C, QNRF-MME Joint Funding Call, PPM, etc., LPIs are encouraged to submit them for the relevant program, where they would stand a better chance of getting awarded. However, while BSRA is investigator driven, the researchers must remember that their research proposals must be of importance and relevance to Qatar.
Each BSRA award is up to 100,000 USD per year for a duration of up to three years.
