Executive Director’s Message | September 2021

Together on the journey of growth

Today, QNRF boasts various departments which are serving Qatar and its people by advancing research and development across different sectors and are united by their aim to use research as an effective catalyst for improving the education, lifestyle, and health of people in Qatar to the highest standard and helping it emerge as a leading regional and international research hub. From our nascent days till today, we have garnered countless achievements and met many milestones which would not have been possible without the continued support of Qatar Foundation’s leadership and dedication of the employees of QNRF.

Every member of our team here is an asset and their growth is the growth of QNRF. Therefore, we effectively contribute to the development of our staff and this has helped us greatly throughout our journey in many ways. We have various success stories within our staff members, who through their hard work and dedication are helping us make a real difference in Qatar and beyond. This month, we feature one such notable member of the QNRF family, Riham Daher, who joined us shortly after beginning her professional life and is now the Director of Programs Administration at QNRF. Her interview provides valuable insight into how QNRF contributes towards the development of its employees, both personally and professionally.

Moreover, this month we share a success story from the health sector of an interesting research project which explores the interlinkages between diabetes and breast cancer, a very important issue for Qatar as it is one of the countries where diabetes is prevalent and breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among females. I hope that this research project from Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar will help you learn more about the efforts underway to help promote a healthy lifestyle.

Lastly, as part of our ‘QNRF Community’ series, we share with you our recently held Research Outcome Seminar which brought together leading experts in Qatar to discuss a selection of projects related to pediatric research and share their latest outcomes enabled through QNRF.

In closing, please stay tuned with us to learn about our upcoming activities as we have an interesting array of events lined up for the next month including the, 5th FameLab Qatar Competion in partnership with the British Council, the 13th Annual UREP competition, and the National Scientific Research Week for schools in Qatar in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. All these three events will be held virtually. Please visit our website and find out how you can be a part of them.
