Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the awardees of its flagship National Priorities Research Program (NPRP), and of its inaugural Path towards Personalized Medicine (PPM) grant. The announcements came during the Qatar Foundation Annual Research Conference (ARC’16), which was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre last week. QNRF,a member of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D),presented grants to 89 research proposals across 18 institutions in Qatar for the ninth cycle of the NPRP. The five awardees of the first cycle ofPPM were also disclosed.

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), has taken part in the opening session of the Arab Expatriate Science and Technology Innovation Forum (AES Forum), which was held Monday at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

The winners of the inaugural ‘Best Representative Image of an Outcome’ (Brio) competition have been announced. Launched by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in September 2015, the competition aims to encourage QNRF-awarded research teams to use artistic images and visuals to highlight the outcomes of their research to a wider audience. Designed to showcase scientific discoveries, the award demonstrates QNRF’s dedication to building the nation’s innovation and technology capacity.

Leading biomedical researchers based in Qatar and the MENA region, Europe, and the Far East met for the two-day ‘Ion Channels and Transporters in Health and Disease’ conference.Sponsored by Qatar National Research Fund’s (QNRF) Conference and Workshop Sponsorship Program, the conference was led by Professor Douglas Bovell, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q).

Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D) has announced the keynote speakers for its Annual Research Conference 2016 (ARC’16), taking place on March 22 and 23 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC)

Twelve participants will compete at the national finals of FameLab, the world’s largest science communication competition, which takes place today at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Center.

The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), which functions under the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is spearheading a major international research initiative on traumatic brain injury. The research involves extensive collaboration between leading specialists from around the globe over the next three years. It will provide new knowledge on the processes that lead to loss and recovery of function after traumatic brain injury and focus on characterising the physiological, structural and biomolecular changes in brain tissue responsible for functional impairment.
