QNRF launches a new funding program for Young Scientists

Capitalizing on its success with the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) and the Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP), the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is launching a new research funding program targeting young scientists. The new program, named Young Scientists Research Experience Program or YSREP, complements the two other funding programs, UREP and NPRP and aims to provide critical and adequate support to young scientists residing in Qatar who are at the stage of starting or consolidating their own independent research team or their independent research program.

 "This program will be an additional milestone in building research capacity and sustaining the research culture in Qatar" stated Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Taie, QNRF Executive Director. He added "The YSREP will actually support investigator-initiated research across all fields of research."

Candidates applying for funding under this program are required to hold a doctorate degree (PhD or a terminal academic research degree) with at least two peer-reviewed scientific publications and have age limited to 35 years. The candidate should be affiliated to a local institution in Qatar at the time of submitting the research proposal and during the entire duration of the project. The YSREP funding cycle is annual with funds of US $100,000 per year per project; the project duration can be up to 3 years. Young scientists who will be leading the project can work individually or with a supporting research team from the same institution (the submitting institution) to which they are affiliated.

 QNRF will be organizing two events to present the new funding program on Wednesday and Thursday at 10am as follows:

- 19 May 2010: Education City, Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar, Lecture Hall 1213

- 20 May 2010: Qatar University, Conference Hall of the Administration Building
